Relatively flat walking compared to previous days and the weather was blissfully cool so I made really good time and I went past the town the guide books all recommend, Estella, and stopped in the town of Ayegui. More farm country today (starting to see more wine grapes!) in between small towns. I ended up walking by myself today mostly and it was nice to be with my thoughts. At one point, I was huffing and puffing up a small hill and I felt like someone was watching me so I looked up and there was this beautiful horse standing at the top of the hill staring me down. I felt a little judged, not going to lie!

Handsome but Judgy horse

Walked along a stretch of road laid by Romans at least 2000 years ago and tried not to get overly excited about how stinking cool is that?!?! Millions of people have walked there and it still looks better than some of the roads in northern Virginia!

Roman Road

Passing through the town of Estella was really neat- lots of historical buildings. I love to find the juxtaposition of modern and ancient things to take pictures of.

One of these things is not like the others…
Church built from 1100s- 1500s
The Castile Gate of Estella 16th Century

Dinner tonight will just be the simple pilgrims meal in the albergue- hard to top last night’s deliciousness. My plan for tomorrow is 15.6 miles/25km. I do not have reservations anywhere so I will see where the road takes me!
