Last night’s Albergue was a renovated and converted palace built in 1702 in the small town of Sansol with an amazing view out over the countryside. The main staircase was gorgeous stone steps that show the years of feet trod upon them. The pilgrims dinner was a real treat. I enjoyed an amazing local Navarran specialty soup made from cardoon (like giant celery??) and jamon. For dessert sweet local melon.

Weather was slightly cooler today but still partly sunny. I got 2/3 of my walking out of the way before the sun was beating down on me, making my last 5km harder than the previous 15. I walked today with John and Donna from New Zealand, and ran into Henry the British lawyer. Henry is a great conversationalist and is indulging his inner history buff on his Camino. Donna made an interesting comment today, that people who are disenchanted with society and humanity should come do the Camino. The Spanish people are so warm and kind and you meet people of all ages from all over the world who restore that faith in humanity and in the future of the world.

I am now in Logroño, capital city of La Rioja region of Spain having left Navarra behind. La Rioja is world-renowned for its wine. It would only be culturally appreciative for me to go out this evening and have some culinary experiences…😜

Can’t wait to hear more about the Rioja region. And Donna sounds like a very wise soul. Enjoy. 😘

We do daily dramatic readings as a family and love watching the map and playing “Where in Espana is walking Aunt Manda?”

I am with you in spirit.

    Much love.
