Sunny but extremely windy today- so I should get extra points for walking into the wind for 19.4m/ 31km. It felt more like 31 miles rather than km! I took a picture today that shows one aspect of the Meseta that kind of drives me crazy. You are walking along for miles and the app says you are almost to the next town but there is nothing in sight except more farm fields. Then the path dips down and you finally see the roofs of the town hiding in the “depression”/ valley. Whew!

Flat flat flat then Surprise! There’s the town!

I met a fellow Caminante and lovely Camino angel today ironically named Angela from Tenerife, just as I was running out of gas. She pepped me up and encouraged me that we only had 5 more km to go and shared with me her toffee candies. That sugar was helpful for that last little bit into town! All my Camino angels provided food of some sort apparently….

I always look at the street art and graffiti as I walk along. Most of it is political or is about something local that I know nothing about. Today I saw a quote by Antonio Machado- a famous Spanish poet from the early 1900s.

Walker, there is no path.
The path is made by walking.

And now I have my new favorite quote – thank you.

Back when I was running a lot, my fellow runner girlfriends and I would refer to those tough weather elements (we were in Chicago!) as a ‘factor.’ After particularly tough runs we’d often calculate what the ‘real’ distance or the ‘real’ time would be based on the ‘factor.’

Your factor today meant you walked 31 miles! Good for you!

I love that Machado quote. It is an original “just do it”. It is true about more than the Camino. Very proud and happy for your progress. Looking forward to seeing you.

We visited Crete today. sea day tomorrow as we turn to sail westward to Malta before heading around Italy and up the Adriatic to Montenegro and Croatia.

    Love you muchisimo
